O-9 (On18) LOCO KITS

The O-9 range kicked-off with the Open Engine DIESEL and was soon followed by the GAS-MECHANICAL featuring a closed hood. Both kits were specifically designed to fit the top quality and affordable KATO 11-103 donor mechanism which provides smooth and quiet running down to a crawl. The KATO mechanism is included in the price of the kit.

 

Both the DIESEL and GAS-MECHANICAL kits feature two choices of alternative side frames plus alternative cab parts. Purchasers may opt to fit the corrugated overall roof provided, or they can choose instead to fit a shorter roof over the driver's footplate only. Alternatively, build the model roofless. There is ample scope to build at least THREE different-looking versions from each kit. It's all about giving the modeller plenty of choices.

 

Each internal combustion beauty is supplied with the specific seated driver figure pictured.

 

I've been asked if there's room in these models for a small DCC decoder and yes there is. You'll find ample room under the GAS-MECHANICAL's hood in which to fit a decoder and some tractive weight. Finding room in the DIESEL is a little more challenging but there's a US customer of mine who squeezed a small decoder between the top of the Diesel's KATO mechanism and the underside of the open engine's sump and he posted a step-by-step photographic record showing how he did this and how he assembled/painted/weathered his DIESEL on the Yahoo On18/O-9 forum. Anything's possible. 

 

Kits are supplied complete with the exception of couplers. Kits are designed to accept MicroTrains N-scale 1025 knuckle-type couplers but pretty much any other coupler of your preferred choice can be made to fit with the minimum of work.
